This page covers the questions already answered on the homepage, then the ones people hit once they try a real file: messy CSVs, stop words, which export to pick, and what the tool will not do. The homepage FAQ anchors can stay for anyone already on the home page. The menu should point here.

A two-minute tour of the steps is on How it works. The control list is on Features.

Start here

Free use and accounts

Is the word cloud generator really free?

Yes. Create, customize, and download without paying and without signing up. The 26 fonts, 12 themes, custom colors, stop words, word count, and all three exports are included. There is no paid tier and no demo mode. The free word cloud generator page is the same product.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Paste, customize, and download while signed out. A free account only saves a cloud so you can reopen it. It does not add a classroom or a team workspace.

Will I lose the cloud if I do not save?

The file you downloaded is yours either way. Keep the PNG, JPEG, or SVG. Save to an account only if you want to revise the same cloud later without rebuilding the paste.

Is there a student or teacher plan?

No separate plan. Teachers and students use the same free generator. Students do not need accounts to make or download a cloud. For classroom-shaped examples, use the teachers page. For study notes and assignment visuals, use the students page.

What a word cloud is

What is a word cloud?

A word cloud (tag cloud, wordle) is a picture of text where size shows frequency. Words that appear more often are drawn larger. It is not a written summary and not a sentiment score. Uses and examples: what is a word cloud. Build guide: how to make a word cloud.

Does a bigger word mean it is more important?

It means the word showed up more often. If “meeting” is huge because every line started with it, that is frequency, not insight. Remove stop words, cut boilerplate, or lower the word count.

Inputs

What input sources are supported?

Three. Direct text (type or paste). CSV upload up to 5MB. YouTube comments. Those are the sources. The same cloud controls apply no matter which one you used.

Step-by-step for a first text cloud: how to create a word cloud for free.

Can I upload a PDF, a photo, or a link?

No. Copy the text out of the PDF, OCR a photo yourself, or paste the article. Then use the generator. Promising file uploads that are not there is how people bounce. Paste is the reliable path.

How should a CSV be prepared?

Keep it within 5MB and export the text column you mean to visualize. Drop ID, email, and timestamp columns. If the file is too big, filter the sheet and export again.

Can I use YouTube comments?

Yes, as an input, when comment import is available. The comments become the text the cloud counts. If import is not available on that visit, paste the comments. This is not a live overlay on the video and not a tool the audience joins from their seats.

Is my text private?

Do not paste names, private feedback, or customer data you are not allowed to move. Delete identifiers first, and do not save a cloud you would not want stored. School or company rules still apply. There is no class roster and no student login.

Look and controls

Can I customize the colors and fonts?

Yes. Choose from 26 fonts and 12 color themes, or set custom colors and the background color. Themes are the fast path. Custom colors are for matching a slide or a page. Color does not encode frequency. Size does.

What do stop words do?

Stop-word removal drops common words that would otherwise dominate because they are in every sentence. Turn it on for normal prose and comments. Read the cloud afterward. If a short word was actually your data, adjust the source text or leave those words in. The control is a cleanup, not an editor that knows your topic.

What does word count do?

It sets how many words are displayed. A higher count shows more of the text and gets busier. A lower count is easier to read on a slide or poster. Change word count before you hunt for a different font. Most “too messy” clouds are a count problem.

Can I color one word and not the others?

Not as a rule you assign per word. You choose a theme or a custom palette for the cloud, plus a background. If a single word must look unique, that is a design edit after export, not a generator mode.

Does it work in languages other than English?

The cloud draws the words you paste. It does not translate them. Stop-word removal is aimed at common English function words, so in another language you may still see small grammatical words until you remove them in the source text. Frequency still applies: repeated words get larger.

Exports and files

What file formats can I export?

PNG at 2× resolution, JPEG, and SVG. PNG is the usual choice for slides and pages. JPEG is there when you need a JPEG. SVG scales for print and large layout. All three are available without an account.

Which format should I download?

Use PNG at 2× unless you have a reason not to. Use JPEG if the destination asks for it. Use SVG if the cloud will be printed large or resized in a design file. If a JPEG looks soft next to flat slide colors, switch to PNG.

Can I use the image in Google Slides, PowerPoint, or a doc?

Yes. Download PNG or JPEG and insert it like any other image. SVG is better when the next tool is a vector layout or a large print. The generator does not embed itself inside Slides. You place the file.

Do I have to pay or register to download?

No. Download is included. Registration is only for saving a cloud to your account.

Using it in class or for study

Can teachers use it with a class?

Yes. The teacher pastes text or a CSV, then downloads. Students do not need accounts. It will not run a live poll or a QR join. Collect the words first. Activities: teachers hub.

Can students use it for assignments?

Yes. Paste notes, an article, or vocabulary, export, and put the image in the assignment or the slides. Details are on the students hub. The tool does not check plagiarism, cite sources, or connect to a learning management system.

Why does my cloud look boring or wrong?

Usually the text. Too little repetition and every word is a similar size. Too much boilerplate and the wrong word wins. Turn on stop words, lower the word count, and delete lines you do not want counted. Then change theme and font. A walkthrough of that order is How it works.

This site

Where do I actually make the cloud?

On the homepage generator: Create a free word cloud. These pages explain the product. They do not load a second copy of the app.

How is this FAQ different from the homepage FAQ?

The homepage #faq block is the short form beside the tool. This page is the full list. Menus should use this URL. The homepage block can stay for people already on the home page.

Where are features and the step-by-step?

Features lists inputs, fonts, themes, stop words, word count, and exports. How it works walks the three steps with the decisions that matter. How to make a word cloud is the general guide. How to create a word cloud for free is the free first-run guide.

Still about to make one

You do not need every answer before the first cloud. Paste something short, remove stop words, download a PNG.
